Maker/Collector Statement
I walk past pots in my house every day; sometimes they are silent stewards of space. I really had to take in my collection and think, for that I am thankful.
This Square Fish Plate made by Michael Simon has been with me for most of my career. Early on I was deeply drawn to his work and I can see direct influences in my pitcher forms, bowls and drinking vessels.
The more apt question is, “How has this plate not influenced my pottery?” Line, slip, wax resist, salt firing.
My Bottle with Lines combines sodium vapor, wood firing, and slip work all in one. The copper green glaze is a color I have chased for years and cherished in Simon’s work.
