Maker/Collector Statement

This Footed Cup was made by Will Ruggles and hand painted by Douglas Rankin, near Penland, North Carolina. I purchased the cup at a Rock Creek Pottery studio sale in 2001.

I quickly fell in love with their work and envied their lifestyle. It opened my eyes to a new aesthetic of pots that I knew I'd like to follow as a potter myself. (Lidded Jar)

When I use the cup, I think of them and all of the people they have influenced over the many years that they made pottery.
